My travel skills have come a long way— a very long way. My first plane ride was at age 18, and when the plane left the ground, I just started simultaneously laughing and crying. For my trip I had: One hysterical breakdown? Check. A suitcase bigger than me? Check. Only cheap flats aka the worst walking shoes? Check. I was not thriving.

However, I’ve learned since then that planes are a necessary evil. They really can take you a lot of places!! Who knew?? Honestly, I’d walk everywhere if I could, but I don’t seem to have the time.

Through trial and many errors, I have gone from a terrible flyer to above average passenger. And now, I am here to share my top 5 travel tips from my years of mistakes:

1. DRY SHAMPOO

No matter how long the flight, no matter where I am going, I will arrive at my destination with greasy hair. That’s not cute, and this new city needs to see how cute I am! Batiste is the only dry shampoo I trust. It’s cheap, the smell doesn’t make me want to gag, and it legitimately makes my hair look clean. Everyone in the world needs dry shampoo. I don’t care if you’re traveling or just existing. Dry shampoo will make your life better. LINK

2. THIS LIQUIDS BAG

This bag was a game changer. All the liquid bottles already FIT inside the bag, and the bag I have has lemons on it. Fun and functional!! This bag never leaves my suitcase, so I’m never without shampoo, conditioner, body soap, lotion, toothpaste, etc when I travel. Don’t worry. I still forget things, but they’re not my liquids! LINK

3. DOWNLOAD TV/MOVIES

You don’t know what the WiFi situation is going to be like. Maybe you’re going to live in a 15th-century castle, and it’s going to be very rainy, so you’re stuck inside. Sure you can bring a book, preferably Marta’s and my book (eventually), but if you’ve already read that over and over, download Schitt’s Creek. It is truly the only show that gets better every season. Need a movie? To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. I DARE you not to be charmed. Traveling outside of the US? Download Rupaul’s Drag Race. There is every season, and you can still watch it when you’re in the US.

4. Tiny lil’ Bag

This may be the most boring thing I own, but no one wants to carry around a massive backpack or purse when you’re going out to dinner. I got a very similar bag from H&M years ago that is the perfect size for a wallet, phone, and vibrator lipstick that is still going strong. It takes up next to no room in your suitcase, and when you wear an outfit with tiny/no pockets, you will be covered. LINK

5. A friend who lives in the city you’re visiting when you inevitably get stranded.

Maybe this is just me? I don’t know, but everyone who keeps acting surprised that airlines don’t set passengers up with hotels overnight needs to stop. I have been stranded overnight in 6 cities, within the past two and a half years and left to my own devices. I am cursed. Please never fly with me. But also, please let me sleep on your couch.

Let me know what I missed in the comments below! Or if I can sleep on your couch!!
